5 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Botox Without a VI Peel (AKA a ToxBooster Treatment)

Written by Alia Brown, MD, FAAD as part of The Brown Skin Agenda Initiative.

Did you know that getting a VI Peel® treatment immediately prior to your Neurotoxin Injection (like Botox®, Xeomin®, Dysport®, Juveau® and Daxxify®) can boost the anti-aging results of both treatments? Also called a ToxBooster® Treatment, this combo not only combats wrinkles – which is widely considered to be the main sign of aging—but ALL signs of aging including sun damage, laxity, and texture. Here are 5 reasons why you should combine these two treatments during your next appointment.

Reason #1: Clinically Proven Results

VI Peel, the leader in painless and skin-tone inclusive corrective chemical peels, recently announced their revolutionary new clinical study published in the prestigious Journal of Drugs in Dermatology (JDD)* regarding the efficacy of this treatment.

Conducted by my friends, board-certified dermatologist Wendy E Roberts, MD, FAAD and Nancy Miller, RN, MBA, the findings from this clinical study demonstrated that after just one ToxBooster Treatment, participants experienced:

  • 60% reduction in wrinkles (vs. just 37% with neurotoxin alone**)
  • 59% reduction in hyperpigmentation
  • 70% improvement in skin tone

This means that you’re getting more wrinkle fighting benefits AND tackling other signs of aging –all in one office visit.

Reason #2: It’s Safe and Effective for ALL Skin Tones

The ToxBooster Treatment can be safely and effectively performed on all skin tones, as it combines a neurotoxin injection with a VI Peel, the #1 painless and skin tone inclusive chemical peel that was created by a person of color, for people of color (and everyone else, too!). I love that VI Peel is committed to developing inclusive peel, skincare, and treatment formulas that are safe and suitable for all skin tones. In the clinical study mentioned above, 60% of the patients were skin of color, which is in direct contrast to the majority of medical or clinical studies that favor Caucasians or those with lighter skin tones.

Reason #3: It’s Time Efficient

Not only are you doubling down on multiple signs of aging, but you’re doing so with one short 30-minute visit. I always tell my patients that the foundation to anti-aging is overall skin care versus spot treating. That’s why I love the ToxBooster Treatment. The VI Peel addresses the entire foundation and health of your skin, while the neurotoxin concentrates on overused muscles to prevent worsening of dynamic lines. This delivers a dramatic glowing effect that my patients are obsessed with, in one appointment, with results seen in as little as 7 days.

The ToxBooster Treatment experience is easy:

  1. Your skin is cleansed and degreased until all oils and debris are completely removed.
  2. The VI Peel solution is applied in multiple passes (typically 4-6), with your practitioner or aesthetician monitoring your skin for redness or irritation in between each pass.
  3. Once the VI Peel is applied, the practitioner will start injecting your Botox or other Neurotoxin. This should be a fairly comfortable experience, as the VI Peel also acts as a numbing agent.

And that’s it! Once you’re done, your practitioner will walk you through your post-care instructions and provide an aftercare kit to take care of your skin at home in between your next appointment, ideally 3 months later.

Reason #4: Easy Maintenance

Although it depends on each patient, we recommend a ToxBooster Treatment in the same frequency as your normally scheduled neurotoxin appointment.  Therefore, about every 3 months will help to correct skin conditions and keep reoccurrences at bay.

Reason #5: Addresses Multiple Signs of Aging

Like I mentioned before, the ToxBooster treatment not only treats your wrinkles, but ALL other signs of aging as well. Because, well, why stop at wrinkles? With a ToxBooster treatment, you can expect to also treat hyperpigmentation (like sun damage, melasma, dark spots, etc), skin elasticity, skin texture, and even blemishes if you have them!

I hope by now, you’re convinced on why you should never Botox without a VI Peel. To book your next ToxBooster Treatment, visit VI Peel’s Practice Finder to find a location near you. Does your favorite practice not carry the ToxBooster Treatment? Make sure to ask for it!

So, there you have it. Cheers to youthful, glowing skin!
